Rocketown’s outreach to teens would not be possible without generous community support. With the help of individuals, companies, foundations and churches, we recently celebrated six years in downtown Nashville. Even with the struggling economy in 2008, Rocketown helped more teens and their families than ever before. Below are just a few of last year’s accomplishments:

  • Rocketown provided a safe place for an average of 1,350 teens to spend their time after school and on weekends.

  • Offered an average of 20 unique after-school programs per month to empower and teach students in art, music and extreme sports, including: film editing, song-writing, recording, graphic design, fashion design, dance, photography, journalism and skateboarding.

  • Developed a partnership with Centerstone to provide free counseling, working with 53 young people struggling with such issues as peer pressure, drugs, alcohol, depression, eating disorders and more.

  • Implemented a new afterschool program called REACT that provides tutoring and enrichment activities every day for inner-city students who have academic and behavioral challenges in school. 28 students are enrolled in the 20-hour/week program.

  • 404 young people experienced a creative environment during the summer where they developed new skills, interacted with peers and learned positive decision-making skills through Rocketown’s weekly Summer Sessions.

  • More than 270 of these participants received scholarships that enabled them to attend Summer Sessions.

  • Provided material assistance for dozens of teens and their families who have been deeply hurt by the economy.

  • Launched the Alex LeVasseur Scholarship program, providing tutoring and incentives for academic improvement for 12 students per semester through our skatepark.

  • More than 75 teens connected to peers and adult mentors each week through Skatechurch, Bible Study, Girls Group and Connect.

We need your help to continue making these life-changing programs available for all teens.
